Three of the five seats on the Moraga-Orinda Fire District board are up on Nov. 3, The Orinda News reports. Division 1's Greg Hasler is running unopposed. Divisions 3 and 4 are contested.
Division 3 (open seat)
Director Steve Danziger is stepping down. He has endorsed Donnelly.
- John Donnelly, ballot designation: Medical Scientist. He told The Orinda News he wants more coordination with EBMUD, PG&E and school districts, more joint exercises, and resident education on evacuation. He said the proposed Zone 0 rules should put education ahead of initial compliance.
- Steve Cohn. He argues Orinda pays more into the district and faces higher fire risk than Moraga, and that spending should reflect that. He also wants better home inspections, says the district's fire modeling leaves out the deadliest fires, and suggests upgrading gravel roads from south Orinda to Wilder as emergency exits.
Division 4
- Mike Roemer, ballot designation: Incumbent.
- Linda Stevens, ballot designation: Geospatial Technology Consultant.
Ballot designations are the short job descriptions candidates chose for the ballot, as printed on the county's official candidate list. This explainer does not endorse anyone.
