Through the tunnel from Point Richmond, Dornan Drive leads to a bayside park with views of San Francisco.

What's there

The park district lists a shoreline picnic area, a secluded cove with a swimming beach, a fishing pier at a historic site, and a hilltop with panoramic views. Keller Beach and Ferry Point are official San Francisco Bay Water Trail sites. Wikipedia says the park centers on a saltwater lagoon, Ferry Point has a former train ferry pier and other ruins, and the high point, Nicholl Knob, has views of the Oakland and San Francisco skylines. The Golden State Model Railroad Museum is in the park.

The names

The park honors the late state Sen. George Miller Jr. and the late John T. Knox, a Point Richmond resident and former state assemblyman. Wikipedia says the beach closed after the 2007 Cosco Busan oil spill and reopened months later.

Visiting

The district says the park is open 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. unless posted, and parking is free. The entrance is on Dornan Drive at 900 Dornan Drive. The district runs a beach water-quality monitoring program for Keller Beach.
