Los Altos Hills elects two City Council members to four-year terms on Nov. 3, and three candidates are running. You can vote for up to two.
The candidates
- Indu Kadambi (ballot designation: business owner) is a commissioner for the Los Altos Hills County Fire District and co-founded the nonprofit Friends of the Hills. Her campaign is built around "SAFE": safety, advocacy, fiscal leadership, and executing with deliberation. "A quiet coronation does not put residents at the table. An election does," she said at a League of Women Voters forum on Sept. 30, according to the Los Altos Town Crier.
- Jasmeen Pombra (physician) chairs the neuromedicine department at Kaiser Permanente and has volunteered with the town's parks and recreation work. She says she's the only candidate endorsed by every sitting council member. Her priorities are meeting housing requirements while keeping the town's semi-rural character, plus emergency preparedness.
- Jim Waschura (planning commissioner) is an engineer who has run two tech businesses. His priorities are resident safety, administrative efficiency, and handling housing. He wants to work with nonprofit developers to avoid density-bonus projects.
The issues
The Town Crier reports Los Altos Hills must plan for 489 new housing units, about 200 of them affordable. The town also faces wildfire risk, and its costly contract with the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office is ending.
How to vote
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Polls and vote centers close at 8 p.m., and mailed ballots must be postmarked by Election Day and arrive within seven days. You can check your registration and ballot status at sos.ca.gov/elections. California lets you register and vote the same day at a vote center.
