Couples who want a spooky wedding can tie the knot on Friday, Oct. 30, when Contra Costa County Clerk staff will officiate "Scaremonies" in costume, Contra Costa News reported. The county listed the announcement among its official press releases on Oct. 26.

Why it matters: It is an annual Halloween tradition for the office, and a quick, low-cost way to get married.

When and where

Ceremonies will take place at the County Clerk-Recorder's Office, 555 Escobar Street in Martinez, between 8:20 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. A limited number of appointments remain, and walk-in couples will be accepted until 3:30 p.m.

Some couples and guests dress up too. Staff in robes are available for couples who want a traditional ceremony.

Costs

A marriage license is required before the ceremony and can be bought during the appointment. A public marriage license costs $95 and a confidential license costs $100. A civil ceremony costs $60 with an appointment or $65 for a walk-in.

"The Clerk-Recorder's office is all-in for Halloween, and 'Scaremonies' offers our team a way to celebrate and have fun with our customers," said Clerk-Recorder Kristin B. Connelly.
