Singer Chris Brown was given an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, at Southwark Crown Court on Monday over an attack at the Tape nightclub in Mayfair in February 2023, the BBC reported.
What the court heard
- Brown hit music producer Abraham "Abe" Diaw twice in the head with a glass tequila bottle. The victim needed hospital treatment, according to the BBC.
- Brown and his vocal coach, rapper Omololu Akinlolu, pleaded guilty to affray in July. Akinlolu got four months, suspended for 12 months. Both must pay £1,500 in costs.
- Brown will not go to prison unless he commits another offense during the suspension period.
The judge's words
Judge Tony Baumgartner called the use of the bottle "plainly dangerous" and said Brown's fame "do[es] not entitle you to special treatment – the law applies equally to everyone." He cited Brown's guilty plea, his compliance with bail and the effect jail would have on his children, the BBC reported.
The Evening Standard reported that Brown, 37, avoided jail at the hearing.
