Brentwood will get at least two new council members on Nov. 3. Vice Mayor Pa'tanisha Pierson and Councilmember Tony Oerlemans are not seeking reelection, and six candidates are running for the two seats, which are elected by district.
Who is running
- District 4: Kris Brand, Vinoy Mereddy and Tammy Zickuhr
- District 2: Holley Bishop-Mello and Stephanie Williams-Rogers
- Sheree Shannon is also on the ballot. She sent prerecorded remarks to the candidate forum instead of attending.
What they said at the forum
Nearly 60 residents came to a 90-minute forum at the Delta Theater, The Press reported. Jobs and growth came up the most.
Kris Brand has served on the Planning Commission. He called the PA1 Innovation Center, near Sand Creek Road and Highway 4 by Costco, the city's big opportunity and said the city should set dates for putting infrastructure underground there. "Economic development is the ballgame here," he said.
Stephanie Williams-Rogers wants an economic development task force. She pointed out that many residents commute 40 minutes or more each way and warned against a council that would "rubber stamp" proposals.
Vinoy Mereddy called traffic the city's biggest problem. Tammy Zickuhr said public safety comes first.
Holley Bishop-Mello talked about how AI could affect local jobs. She wants a fifth police beat and supports Fire Station 90 at Lone Tree Way and Windy Springs Lane.
Several candidates also talked about agritourism and keeping U-pick farms in Brentwood's identity.
