Voters in the North Coast's 2nd Assembly District will see a familiar matchup on Nov. 3. Democratic Assemblymember Chris Rogers faces Republican Michael Greer, who also ran against him in 2024, KRCR reports.

Three things to know

1. The primary wasn't close. Across the district, Rogers won 69.7% (107,900 votes) to Greer's 30.3% (46,846) on June 2, according to Ballotpedia. KRCR reports that in Humboldt County alone the split was about 66% to 33%. In a two-candidate primary, both advance automatically.

2. Greer is running on deregulation. The certified ballot lists him as a "Retired Teacher." KRCR says he was a special education teacher and has served on school boards including Del Norte Unified and Paradise Union. "We need to deregulate a lot of the areas that are in business, the economy, whether it's the fisheries, whether it's the timber, you know, restaurants," he told the station. He also named affordability and accountability as priorities.

3. Rogers isn't campaigning in the press. KRCR said it sent Rogers, who is listed as "Assemblymember," an interview request and got no response.

The seat's recent history

Rogers beat Greer in the 2024 general election, according to Ballotpedia. Before Rogers, the seat was held by Democrat Jim Wood, who beat Republican Charlotte Svolos with 71.1% in 2022.
