Apple released the 27.2 updates for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS and visionOS on Monday, Oct. 26. Most of the changes are to Siri AI, the rebuilt assistant that runs on Apple Intelligence.
What's new in Siri AI
- Memory: Siri can recall past conversations, so you can ask about something it told you before. Ars Technica's example is restaurants it recommended last week.
- More sources: It can now draw on photos attached in Messages, Calendar event attendees, voicemails, and Safari history and Reading List.
- Excluded Apps: One setting lets you choose which apps Siri, Search and suggestions can access.
- Languages: Siri AI now works in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, as well as English. Apple says Chinese (traditional), Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese are coming by the end of the year.
The fine print
Apple says Siri AI is still in beta. It requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled device, which Ars lists as the iPhone 15 Pro, the iPhone 15 Pro Max and all iPhone 16 models and later. Siri AI isn't available in the EU on iOS, iPadOS or watchOS, and Apple says it is "working constructively with the EU." It isn't available in mainland China either, and it isn't offered to users under 13.
Apple also says features that rely on server-side models, including Siri AI and Image Playground, have daily usage limits, and that "expanded access to such features will be available for a fee in the future."
Other changes
According to Ars, iOS 27.2 also adds:
- suggestions in Messages, such as turning a dinner invite into a calendar entry
- SynthID watermarking support in Photos and Image Playground
- user profiles in the Apple TV app
- new Apple Music branding
- Apple Pencil support on the iPhone Duo foldable
Ars notes that macOS 27.2 betas contained references to gesture recognition. That may be linked to unconfirmed reports of touch support on the next MacBook Pro, ahead of an Apple briefing scheduled for Wednesday.
