Antioch Unified School District is holding budget meetings with parents and the community on Monday, Oct. 26, and with district leaders and staff on Tuesday, Oct. 27, as it races to identify cuts for the 2027-28 school year.

The district must submit a detailed, board-approved list of 2027-28 reductions to the Contra Costa County Office of Education by Nov. 30, the Antioch Herald reported. Staff asked the board at an Oct. 20 study session for direction ahead of meetings on Oct. 28 and Nov. 18.

The numbers

The fiscal recovery plan the board adopted in September calls for $21.58 million in ongoing cuts in 2027-28, including about $6.5 million in reductions planned for this year that weren't made, Contra Costa Pulse reported. Preliminary areas include about $12.5 million in staffing changes or vacancy savings, $3.75 million in contracts and $2.25 million in program restructuring.

The figures keep moving. As of Oct. 8, the district had made $10.28 million in actual cuts and needed an additional $7.99 million in reductions that had previously been reported as attained, according to the Herald.

"The plan remains a living document," Assistant Superintendent Rosa Loza told the board. Totals could change with the state budget, one-time money or cost-of-living adjustments, she said.

Meetings are held at the District Office, 510 G St., and streamed on the district's website and YouTube channel.
