Drivers on US-101 through San Rafael should expect nightly lane closures from Monday, Oct. 26, through the morning of Saturday, Oct. 31, as Caltrans continues paving and permanent striping in Marin County.

Lanes in both directions will close from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Ramps closed at various points during the week include:

  • Northbound off-ramps: Industrial Way (8 p.m.), Sir Francis Drake Boulevard (midnight), Second Street, North San Pedro Road and Manuel T. Freitas Parkway (10 p.m.)
  • Northbound on-ramps: Redwood Highway (7 p.m.), Lincoln/Villa Avenue (8 p.m.), Industrial Way and Freitas Parkway (10 p.m.)
  • Southbound on-ramps: North San Pedro Road and Lucas Valley Road (7 p.m.), both Freitas Parkway ramps (8 p.m.), Lincoln Avenue (10 p.m.)

All ramp closures end at 6 a.m. Caltrans has posted detours, and bus stops along the affected ramps may be affected.

About the project

The Capital Preventive Maintenance project repaves about 7.3 miles of US-101 between the Wornum Creek undercrossing and the Miller Creek bridge, including ramps. Work began in mid-May 2026 and is expected to finish in summer 2027, weather permitting, according to Caltrans. Real-time conditions are on 511.org and Caltrans QuickMap.
