Stephan James paid tribute to the late Carl Weathers at Saturday's AFI Fest premiere of "I Play Rocky" at Hollywood's TCL Chinese Theatre, wearing a custom white three-piece suit modeled on the one Weathers wore to the "Rocky II" premiere in Philadelphia.

Why it matters: James plays Weathers, who died in February 2024, in Peter Farrelly's film about the making of "Rocky." Amazon MGM opens it in limited release Nov. 6 and wide Nov. 20.

The look

  • The suit was made by Toronto tailor King & Bay. A rose brooch stood in for the real rose Weathers wore, The Quintessential Gentleman reports.
  • The idea came from James' publicist, Samantha Hill, Variety reports.
  • Anthony Ippolito plays Sylvester Stallone. Michael B. Jordan, who starred in the "Creed" films, joked at the event: "I'm gonna be your daddy, Mike."
