Serge Ruffieux is joining Inditex as a design director under the creative direction of John Galliano, FashionNetwork reported. Ruffieux announced the move on LinkedIn, and the Spanish group confirmed it. Inditex owns Zara, Pull&Bear, Oysho, Stradivarius and Bershka.

"I am delighted to announce that I am taking up a new role as design director, under the creative direction of John Galliano at Inditex," Ruffieux wrote.

Who he is

  • He trained in Switzerland and worked at GĂ©rard Darel and Sonia Rykiel.
  • He later served as artistic director at Christian Dior and at Carven.
  • More recently he built his own accessories brand, 13 09 SR, and freelanced for Jimmy Choo, Pucci, Marni and China's EP Yaying.

What's still unknown

Inditex hasn't said how the studio is organized or what Ruffieux will work on, according to FashionNetwork and the Italian outlet iMille. FashionNetwork said it's unclear whether he'll work on the next installment of Galliano's Zara project or other creative ventures. During the latest Paris Fashion Week, Inditex opened a private mansion in the Marais to show Galliano's reinterpretations of Zara products.

FashionNetwork said the hire shows the fast-fashion giant is bringing in talent from high-end and couture fashion.
