Burlingame's old post office on Park Road is now a restaurant. The Old Post Office opened Oct. 1 in the 1941 Art Deco building. It comes from Bacchus Management Group, which runs Spruce in San Francisco and the Michelin-starred Village Pub and Selby's, Eater SF reported.
The room
The 90-seat dining room is one long hall with 25-foot ceilings and the building's original terrazzo floors, marble walls, brass teller windows and post boxes, The Almanac reported. The cozier Postmaster's Bar is in the former postmaster's office.
"My hope is The Old Post Office becomes for Burlingame and Hillsborough what The Village Pub is for Woodside, or Selby's is for Atherton," owner Tim Stannard told The Almanac.
The food
Executive chef Jonathan Granada worked at the French Laundry. He serves modern takes on dishes from 1940s restaurants and hotels. The showpiece is a 10-day dry-aged duck, cooked in a custom carousel oven and carved tableside. It is limited to six orders a night and must be added when you reserve, Eater SF reported.
Other dishes include a Parmesan tart Granada calls "Gougere 2.0," per Eater SF, and grilled Maine lobster tail with vermouth cream, per The Almanac. The bar menu has a six-ounce burger with house Thousand Island sauce, and The Almanac says the tableside duck is a $40-per-person supplement for two.
