The honorary "Too $hort Way" street sign at Foothill Boulevard and High Street in East Oakland went missing around Wednesday, Oct. 21, and the city had a replacement up by Thursday morning, KTVU reports.
Why it matters: The sign honors one of Oakland's most famous musicians, and the quick replacement shows how much the tribute means locally.
The details
Oakland police said in an email they could not confirm what happened because they had no "incident details." Stealing a street sign is a misdemeanor in California.
The city dedicated the three-block stretch of Foothill between High Street and 47th Avenue to Too $hort on Dec. 10, 2022, with Ice Cube, Mistah F.A.B. and Sway Calloway at the ceremony at Fremont High, his alma mater, Complex reports.
Councilmember Noel Gallo pushed for the honor.
