Congress may hold another public hearing on unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) after the Nov. 3 election, but as of Monday no date, topic or witness list has been announced.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) said a hearing targeted for the third week of September fell through when House leaders canceled the last two weeks of the session. "So we'll, we'll try to pick it back up in November," Comer told Ask a Pol UAP in an interview recorded Sept. 16 and published Oct. 7. "I think it'll be an aggressive lame duck period."

Asked what it would cover, Comer said, "I don't know that we ever agreed on a topic," adding that "getting good witnesses in is always a challenge." He pointed to Reps. Tim Burchett, Anna Paulina Luna and Eric Burlison as the members driving the issue.

Possible witnesses

Burlison (R-Mo.) told the New York Post on Oct. 10 he would explore whether intelligence personnel who reported an encounter near an undisclosed West Coast military base in late 2025 could testify publicly. According to an FBI report released in May, witnesses on a helicopter mission described orange orbs flying alongside the aircraft and smaller objects moving against a mountain backdrop.

Burlison said some of the witnesses have met lawmakers privately, and that one is a career official at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. "There's some people that are working for the agency that having them come forward publicly may expose other things," he said.

The bottom line: These are witness accounts, not verified findings. The released report does not identify the objects or establish their origin, IBTimes UK noted, and no witness has been confirmed for an open hearing.
