Christy Carlson Romano says she and her "Cadet Kelly" co-star Hilary Duff had very different experiences of child stardom, and money was the reason, TMZ reported.
What she said
On Avery Woods' "Cheers With Avery" podcast, the "Even Stevens" star said child actors who are breadwinners for middle-class or lower-middle-class families carry an "extra layer of stress" because the stakes are so high. "She was able to do the right things and listen to her mom, and I think her mom probably saved their money and re-invested in it because they came from money," Romano said of Duff.
Duff has previously said on "Who Do You Think You Are?" that her father was "born into money" and her mother "grew up super poor," TMZ noted.
No beef
Romano has been clear she has nothing against Duff. In a September TikTok, she said, "I loved Hilary. She's not what people expected. Sweet, hardworking, a totally normal girl," Complex reported. She also recalled Duff's mother, Susan, telling her at a lunch during the "Cadet Kelly" shoot to stop being "a yes woman" and learn the power of saying no, advice Romano said took 15 years to sink in.
Romano's memoir, "Once Upon a Trainwreck: The Fall and Rise of a Child Star," came out Oct. 6.
