Admiral Maltings, the craft malt house at 651A W. Tower Ave. at Alameda Point, has closed, along with its on-site pub, The Rake, according to Oaklandside and Eater SF.
The timeline
- Oct. 2: final malt production
- Oct. 18: The Rake's last day, after nine years
Why it mattered
Admiral Maltings supplied locally malted grain to brewers and distillers and was a rare California floor-malting operation. The Rake became a hangout for Alameda Point's growing food and drink scene.
Other East Bay closures
Oaklandside's roundup also noted the closure of Alborz, a Persian restaurant in Berkeley, among other East Bay businesses. Eater's list adds Seniore's Pizza in Berkeley, which closed after 12 years.
